Mary Connealy's MP Gift Basket

A Shout Out of thanks to prolific author Mary Connealy for using the Moral Premise as the center piece of a workshop she presented at her local writer's group in Nebraska. I was introduced to Mary's books when I was preparing to give the pre-conference workshop at the American Christian Fiction Writer's Conference in 2011. Authors who were interested sent me copies of their novels and I read them (a bunch) before the workshop. Mary writes "Romantic Comedy with Cowboys" and she's very good at it. I thorough enjoyed two of her books, smiling and crying all the way through the craziness she comes up with. Mary is also a member of the Seekerville Writer's Group (the Seekers) for whom I've guest blogged a couple times in the past. Thanks, Mary. Keep up the wonderful gift you have.

Good morning, Stan.
I am hoping the book is a bigger incentive than ME teaching a lesson!
:)
I'll try and do your book justice!

Mary, I've read the MP book. If I was within 50 miles I'd come hear you talk. I mean, if you stumble, just start reading the underlined parts of your books, like Petticoat Ranch, which my wife and I loved. That'd be worth the price of admission. Blessings.

Definitely listening to Mary is worth the prize of admission anywhere.

The Moral Premise is great, Stan, and partnered with a master storyteller like Mary, the whole premise just explodes!

I've prepared handouts, mostly direct quotes from either the book or your blog. So even if I don't make sense, hopefully the writer's group will be able to make sense of it.
It's been good for me to try and prepare the lesson. It's helped me get a clearer understanding of The Moral Premise.

Hi Stan, like you and your wife, and tons of others, I'm a Mary Connealy fan. She makes me laugh and cry in real life too. :-)

The Moral Premise is such a boon for writers!

Blessings,
Janet

Mary, I'm sure you always do a great job and will probably have them all laughing.

I'm a huge fan of both Mary Connealy and Stan and the Moral Premise, so putting the two together????

The stuff a writer's dream workshop is made of.

Stan, when we authors try to break down the moral premise, we may fall somewhat short in language but getting to the heart of the matter...

That's the crux of it. And your book and workshops are a huge help to keep us focused on what the book should say... and should skip over like stones on a quiet river!

Thanks for the Seekerville shout-out, Stan! We LOVE having you visit!

This week I've been staring at my virtue-vice pairs list copied from your book and trying to settle on the pair that best fits the story I just completed. Surprisingly, the true MP often turns out to be something different than what I originally thought I was aiming for.

Hi Stan:

Mary’s headline, The Moral Premise -- In A Bag was the first thing I read this morning on my computer. I was so happy. I thought she had reduced the ‘Moral Premise” to easily understandable bits and pieces and put the whole works ‘in a bag’ for easy retrieval when needed. I felt like I was in a baseball game and we were ten runs ahead and the game was in the bag. But no. It was the book that was literally in the bag. Now I’m going to have to do my own thinking.

Thanks, STAN, for the great shout-out to one of my favorite people in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD ... which is not unusual because MC is on a lot of people's favorite person's list ... :)

And, you know what?? I think you and Mary would be a STELLAR workshop team, Stan, what do you say??

Hugs,
Julie

Thanks, Julie. If I was closer I'd show up... just to stand in the back and try not to sit on me spurs, or make faces at Mary see if we can make her laugh.

STAN I DID IT!!!
THE LESSON WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

(Of course I've come to define 'success' as No One Was Killed)

:)
Thanks for your help and advice and the bookmarks!!!

PS you couldn't have made me laugh because I REMOVED MY GLASSES! Then I can't see anyone and can soldier on oblivious to looks of confusion and/or horror.

It's a technique I invented myself.

Congratulations, Mary.
